There have been a lot of latest buzz on Maria's latest moves and games. One of the controversies that sprang up just last month, in mid July was that she was supposed to play the Fed Cup for Russia in the semifinal tie round against the super power USA during the time of 14-15 July. But Maria did not appear for the game clarifying it as the same reason of her shoulder injury. She made it clear that the injury had been bothering her the whole year and it has now revived again. Therefore she had to withdraw from the match.
It was unjustified for her country Russia, that they could not get the favor of the best player from their country and it lead to a huge controversy and talk of the nation. In the same month on the eighteenth of July, Russia booked a place in the finals with Italy.
The captain of the team was Captain Shamil Tarpishchev who announced that Maria was ineligible to be selected in the tournament the same year. This was the very first bad name to Maria's reputation as a consistent player.
It has been the talk of the town that Maria has been into endorsements so much lately that they are bringing her more of the luck and fame than what she is achieving through her mainstream career success.
The Forbes magazine recently listed her as the Highest Paid Female Athlete in the World, which is an honor in itself. Her annual earnings were also listed down as U.S $18 million. The American television network recently corrected the figure and revealed that it was about over $20 million U.S dollars. To sum up the total her exact earning figures were claimed to be about UK£13.4 million per year, and it was then stated that about 90 percent of her earnings were from the so many endorsements she was currently working on. Maria has been asked about her highest income amongst the athletes and she said:
"It's never enough. Bring on the money. There's no limit to how much you can make. You know, one of the greatest things about being an athlete and, you know, making money is realizing that you can help, you know, help the world, and especially children, who I
absolutely love working with."
Maria has just gained her victory over Sania Mirza the Indian tennis player, with the score of 6-2, 6-1, and she has booked her place in the semi finals of the San Diego Classic.
Maria has just recently been able to reach the Acura Classic finals of the year 2007 after defeating Anna Chakvetadze with the score of 6-3, 6-2, last Saturday.
On this achievement Maria had to say:
"I thought the first set was pretty competitive, I felt like once I got the first break in the second set, I felt like I was on cruise control. It was a little too easy."
Now she is all set to face the Number 11 seed Patty Schnyder, the famous Swiss player.
The very latest news on the professional career side of Maria is that she won her first title of the year 2007 by defeating Patty Schnyder with the score of 6-2 3-6 6-0 in the final match that took place last Sunday, in San Diego.
